Go Big or Go Home - Part 1

Our Claws and Fists campaign starts today and I plan on using it as an excuse to try out some new army lists in preparation for Open War. So, over the next three weeks I'm going to present three extremely focused lists and then see how they get on. They are all going to be based around the Razorwolf concept of lots of small Grey Hunter packs in Razorbacks. I used to run a really focused Razorwolf list at 1500 points but it got a bit lost on the way to 1750. This time I'm stripping right back and building the list specifically for 1750. So, without further ado, here is the lsit for week one...

HQ

Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain, Stormcaller, Murderous Hurricane

Only one Priest now. He has Stormcaller to give the vehicles an alement of protection. It was a toss up for his second power between Hurricane and Jaws but I tink that Hurricane is more universally usefull.

Elite

Dreadnought, Twin-Linked Autocannon, Twin-Linked Autocannon

Dreadnought, Twn-Linked Autocannon, Twin-Linked Autocannon

Dakka dakka. 8 Twin-Linked S7 shots provides some supression fire.

Troops

5 Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Razorback, Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma Gun

5 Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Razorback, Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma Gun

5 Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Razorback, Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma Gun

5 Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Razorback, Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma Gun

5 Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Razorback, Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma Gun

Saturation, shooting and scoring.

Fast Attack

Land Speeder, Mulitmelta, Heavy Flamer

Land Speeder, Multimelta, Heavy Flamer

Heavy Support

6 Long Fangs, 4 Rocket Laucnhers, Lascannon

6 Long Fangs, 4 Rocket Launchers, Lascannon

I think that the main problem in this list will be that it's too tempting just to stand off and shoot. Against some armies that isn't such a good idea. So, I just need to remember, keep moving, keep shooting and get out only when you need to.

  1. It's very Rock/Paper/Scissors

If you get drawn against Imperial Guard, you're gonna get your ass shot off and your squads will be too small to survive.

Plus all those Razorbacks and little squads give away a LOT of kill points.

I know that this is the kind of lists the Americans are rollin' with, but I never really had any faith in it.

  2. I think you have made the right choice with MH over JotWW.
I think Jaws is great, don't get me wrong. But Jaws works well against MC and horde. MC due to such choice targets and Horde because of taking out hidden PK Nobz and the number of infantry that will be rolling.
However, all those heavy weapons should have the MCs covered and hopefullt the Dreads and frags will do for horde infantry :)

MH is great for clogging those big units anyway ;)
You could take TW to stuff Bloods, Chaos [Terms and Oblits] and Daemons ^^,

You have zero mêlée ability so remember to play like Ultramarines. Suppress the Wulfen for the win :D

I'd drop the Las cannons. I love them for my Templars but I think they are not value for money on Fangs. Change the Pg on two packs for flamers and then use the points for Standards and MotW ~ what do you think?

I'm of the same mind. Maybe it works better at higher points games as you have more support for the Lasplasbacks but it hasn't performed spectacularly for me in the games I've ran with it.

    A couple of things:
    1. Dakka Dreads are shit hot. I've been using them as a pair and they have performed very well. They'll terrify Guard if you use them with one each in a corner of the board and cross his army so you get shots at his side AV.
    2. You have no Melta. You need Melta. I'd make at least 3 of those squads in the Razors Melta.
    3. You need Wolf Guard for Ld 9. That's a big deal when it comes to pinning/morale tests.
    4. MOAR LONG FANGS. I have a disability: I can't write a Space Wolf list without 3 units of Long Fangs. I hope to overcome it by playing Grey Knights.
    5. You don't need 5 weaksauce scoring units. Get 4 half decent ones with one that can actually fight.

    How about:
    Rune Priest 100
    2 Dakka Dreads 250
    3 x 5 Long Fangs 345 (4 Rockets)
    2 Speeders 140 (Seperate)
    4 Lasplas 300
    3 x 5 Grey Hunters 245 (2 Melta/1 Plasma)
    4 Wolf Guard 112 (PF & CM/2 x CM, 1 x CP)
7 Grey Hunters 120 (Melta, Banner)
    Rhino 35

You've 103 points left so you can throw in a RP with Jaws (yay!) or get another combat unit to protect your lines. You've got almost as much firepower but with the RP in the Rhino able to cast out and the unit able to fight you can counter units being thrown into the middle of your lines.

  4. Standard and MotW are remarkable upgrades. You can turn a small throwaway pack into a nasty close combat problem.

I too love the DakkaDreads. AV12 move and shoot and a bit of CC if you need it? Yes please.
